In support of social distancing practices mandated in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Counseling, Assistance, and Referral Services (CARS) department is currently closed to all in-person visitors. However, CARS is continuing to provide it's counseling services remotely via telephone and/or teleconferencing. To schedule a remote counseling session, please call the CARS office at 272-6868 and leave us a voicemail message. After which you will be contacted back via phone to schedule an appointment and receive further information regarding conducting your appointment remotely. What CARS Offers
CARS promotes a healthy work-life balance by providing on-site services to assist UNM faculty and staff members with professional and personal concerns. Relationship difficulties, anxiety, stress and job burnout, depression, eldercare, coworker conflicts, alcohol or other drug abuse, managing change, grief and loss issues and preparing for retirement are just a few of the issues CARS can address. When you call CARS, a staff member will schedule an initial appointment for you with a clinician. (To ensure everyone's privacy, CARS does not offer walk-in services.) CARS services are completely confidential & free for all benefits eligible staff and faculty.
